Dupont Circle and neighboring Golden Triangle are two of the most attractive and interesting neighborhoods of Washington, D.C. Their popularity stems from the sophisticated and eclectic nature of the homes, businesses and historical sites that comprise this part of D.C. Dupont Circle, Midtown and Golden Triangle are located east of the Potomac Parkway and north of the National Mall. Dupont Circle specifically refers to the neighborhood immediately surrounding the Dupont traffic circle, where Massachusetts Avenue, Connecticut Avenue, New Hampshire Avenue, P and 19th Street intersect.
The name Dupont refers to the landmark fountain located in the park in the center of the traffic circle; the fountain memorializes Samuel Francis du Pont for his military service. Dupont Circle became one of D.C.'s more stylish neighborhoods at the turn of the century and has maintained its appeal ever since. The multi-story, Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque Revival homes dating back to the late-19th century offer an interesting selection for home buyers. Convenience is also a factor: Dupont Circle is an in-town neighborhood, centrally located near commercial districts and shopping, dining and entertainment venues. Real estate options here consist of single-family detached homes, condominiums and townhouses in a wide range of styles and price ranges.
Just south of Dupont Circle is the Golden Triangle, a 38-block district containing some of Washington's best retail, dining and commercial space. Connecticut Avenue is a major transportation corridor that runs from the northwest through the Golden Triangle towards the White House.
Dupont Circle blossomed when it became the neighborhood of choice for DC's most prominent families in the 19th century. First, massive custom homes were built in an assortment of architectural styles. Then, the streets were filled out with multi-story row houses as more and more property seekers were drawn to the region. Modern developments ushered in condominiums, co-ops and high rises as well. Today, the mix of historic and modern homes in Dupont Circle and the surrounding areas are extremely popular with property seekers.
Prices for detached, single-family homes in this area usually start in the $800,000s up to several million for estate properties and mansions. Condominiums and townhouses have a slightly lower price range, from about $200,000 up to $2 Million. Condos with 2 bedrooms start in the $400,000s and for 3 bedrooms units prices start in the mid $600.000s.
